New York San Da
Meet Master David Ross
, head instructor of our New York City martial arts school.
At 8 years old, Master David Ross picked up his first pair of boxing gloves. That was the start of a lifelong process of learning and mastering various martial arts, which he would go on to teach to New Yorkers of all ages, shapes and sizes. From boxing he progressed to the Korean martial arts of Taekwondo and Hapkido. Under the instruction of the late Sifu Pong Ki-Kim, he earned second degree black belts in both arts, and was the New York State AAU full-contact Taekwondo champion for two years. Still, he yearned to explore even more martial arts, which brought him to the Chinese styles of Lama Pai and Choy Lay Fut - which he studied under the renowned, late master Chan Tai-San. David would go on to achieve expert status in these styles as well.
From David's decades of martial arts training under some of the most powerful teachers of our time, he experienced the process of going from beginner to expert many times over. This gave him insight into the stumbling blocks that beginners face, and allowed him to teach his New York City students how to overcome these obstacles in a fun, supportive environment.
David also grew very close with the profound life lessons martial arts have to offer. From confidence to discipline, focus and respect for self and all of life - martial arts has been used for thousands of years to not just teach people self-defense... but to help them grow into confident, vibrant, successful individuals too.
Each of our NYC instructors are familiar with these life lessons as well - and infuse them into each and every class. Each class will help you grow physically, mentally and spiritually, too - helping you hone the mind-body connection.
Our martial Arts facility
Our New York City facility is clean, and up to date. Our instructors are passionate and knowledgeable. They're dedicated to providing you with the most fun, most supportive and encouraging environment possible. After all, learning something new comes with its fun, and with its frustration. Our instructors are here to share the profound joy of martial arts with you, and to support you through the trying times where things may get difficult.
But it's this process of doing your best, pushing through obstacles, setting goals, and reaching them that makes your confidence soar. Our students often tell us that after a few weeks of our NY training, they find themselves naturally taking more risks, being more active and social, and just living a more vibrant life. And it adds a calming ease of mind to know that you can handle yourself should a dangerous situation arise.
In short, all of us here at NY San Da would love to bring martial arts into your life, so you can experience the incredible benefits for body, soul and mind.
”Hard training requires a lot of physical stamina, but it also builds mental and spiritual strength too. “
“We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training.”
